How to Transfer My 8mm Movie Film?

By Brad Hinkle 3/14/2020

8mm Movie Film only lasts about 40 to 60 years on average. Because most of the 8mm movie film we get in today is about 55 years old you must choose a company that will be very gentle with the film. You want to stay away from a real-time or frame by frame machine because it will most likely damage the film. You will want some kind of roller based scanner that gently scans the film each frame at a time without any film gate or by pulling the film through using the sprocket holes.

We use roller based gentle machines for our Pro HD and Pro 2K process. Our film scanners are the highest resolution scanners in the world. Most companies are struggling to provide a 1080p scan of your film. Most of those that can provide a 1080p scan are using a frame by frame modified projector and camcorder setup. Yes, that's right. You can do that at home! If you are looking for a professional 1080p or 2K (1556 line) scan, look no further. We can provide the highest resolution 2K scan (1556 lines) that was only reserved for Hollywood films in the past. In fact, we do film scanning for Independent movies, NASA, and other government agencies.

Your old 8mm movie films are priceless. Then why not invest the right amount to scan the film into high resolution video as good or better than the film. The time is now. Film doesn't last forever. In fact, you only have another 5-10 years if any left to get it properly scanned. Think about all the family memories and people that are no longer with us. It is a treasure of family history. Spending a few hundred or a few thousand on something this priceless just makes sense because once it can't be transferred you wont be able to scan it for any price!

If you film is old you came to the right place. We can film all the way back into the 1920's. Yes, the 1920's. Not all old film can be scanned. It does get to the point where it is too fragile or too warped to be scanned. Fortunately, our Pro HD and Pro 2K scanners are the best in the world at dealing with old film. They are roller based and don't use the sprocket holes to move the film through. They have lasers to help the machine know when to scan and to keep track of the frames as it scans.

If all of this information seems a bit overwhelming, don't worry. We break down the ordering process into easy to understand terms. We provide detailed information about our process, help you calculate footage, and even keep a digital backup of your footage for 30 days. You are only charged for the exact footage you have. In fact, we don't even charge for blank footage or film we tried to scan but couldn't. You only pay for the film we could do.

As Richard wrote in his BBB review, "I discovered two reels of 16mm film from my parents' wedding in 1946. I sent them to Video Conversion Experts and a week later, the film was returned together with an archival DVD (with music added) and a Passport hard drive with an AVI file of the movie in Hi Def. The results are amazing."

Breaking News: We are a company continually researching and developing new technologies to get more quality from your film. We are very proud to offer our brand new Advanced Grain Elimination Technology. It removes 95% of grain and video noise from film to give you a clean and sharp video from your old movies. It is an amazing technology that has been in development for years.
