HOW TO TRANSFER 8MM?

I know, getting tired of transferring your 8mm to another format? Why not scan once and scan it right! That's where we come in. We scan film at higher resolutions than anyone in the world. Sure, you can find all kinds of companies using modified projectors and camcorders or old professional machines from the 1980's. But, then you would have to scan it again because you wouldn't be happy with the quality. Just do it once and do it right. We can scan your 8mm film at 1556 lines of resolution. With 4K TVs around the corner, you don't want to be playing a DVD of old film on your 4K TV. It will look horrible. Get a 2K scan from us and it will look great on an HDTV and good on a 4K TV.

Instead of transferring your 8mm to DVD, have it transferred to a HD digital file like HD-AVI or ProRes. These formats are good quality 1080p master files. They can be used to make DVD or BluRay or anything that comes after BluRays. In the near future you will be able to stream your 1080p files from your computer directly to your TV as well.

Breaking News: We are a company continually researching and developing new technologies to get more quality from your film. We are very proud to offer our brand new Advanced Grain Elimination Technology. It removes 95% of grain and video noise from film to give you a clean and sharp video from your old movies. It is an amazing technology that has been in development for years.

Your 8mm film has 900-1200 lines of resolution. VHS has 240. So, your transfer to VHS only got 1/4 of the resolution from your film. Several things have changed in the past 20 years as well. Media (Video Tape, DVD, Blu-Ray) and film transfer technology (Frame by Frame, Film Scanners, Datacine machines) have gotten much better. In addition, the ability to view the footage on a high resolution (HDTV) has gotten much better as well.

VHS has 240 lines of resolution, DVD 480 and Blu-Ray 1080 lines. 8mm transfer machines went from 240 lines to 480 to 1080 and finally at 1556 (2K). TVs have gone from around 300 lines to 500 and now at 1080 with 4K coming in the next few years. .

A 8mm transfer to VHS 20 years ago would have been a 240 lines process, put on a 240 line VHS tape and watched on a 300 lines TV.

Today, we can do a 8mm film transfers up to 1556 lines, to a format like BluRay which is 1080 lines which would be viewed on a 1080 lines HDTV. You can also get 2K DPX files back to future proof your investment.

A high definition film transfer today can look about 75% better than a film transfer to VHS did 20 years ago.

So, to answer the question, yes, a 8mm film transfer today can look significantly better than a film transfer 20 years ago to VHS. Steve has this to say is his BBB review "Sent some emails to VCE, and got prompt and professional responses. This plus the fact that the investment in a DataCine is a major one caused the trigger to be pulled. Well, thanks for that. Video quality is incredible. Grandad did a pretty good job for a guy who had never held a camera before. And even my young daughters were fascinated by seeing the Sphinx, Pyramids, Eiffle Tower, Sri Lanka, Bali, Cairo, Rome, Paris, Amsterdam and New York as they were in 1938. So we trusted VCE, and two families are thrilled with the result. Thanks."
