Yes, it is possible to convert super 8 yourself using a camcorder and your projector. But, it would be a very poor quality copy of your super 8 film. You will end up with about 40% of the original resolution/detail and will have flicker problems because the film and camcorder are running at different frame rates.

If you are looking to convert Super 8 to DVD and you are looking for the best quality, look no further. We can scan Super 8 film up to 1556 lines (2K). You wont find another lab in the USA that can scan your film at this resolution. We not only scan film for amateur customers but also for other film labs, independent movie producers and government agencies like NASA and companies like SpaceX.

We can not only produce professional archival DVDs for you from your Super 8 film but we can also produce BluRay, HD editing files and the ultimate editing file DPX. DPX is generally used by movie studios but it has recently become supported by a few of the high-end home editors like Premiere Pro CS 5.5+.

Yes, Super 8 can be converted to DVD and many other formats like BluRay, HD editing files and the master of all master formats, DPX. So, Yes, we can convert Super 8 to DVD and many other digital formats as well.

Super 8 film came out in the mid 1960's as an improvement over Regular 8mm film. The frame size is slightly larger than the 8mm film. They basically made the sprocket size smaller which allowed them to increase the size of the frame.

Converting Super 8 to DVD was never really intended. The Super 8 film was only intended for viewing on the a projector. It is actually difficult to get a digital video as good as the Super 8 film. That's why there are some aspects of any Super 8 film transfer process that you need to understand before you decide what is going to work for you. For example, two of the most important aspects are resolution and machine type. You need a machine that is scanning at 1080 lines or higher. Be aware there are some HD film scanners that scan at 720 lines, not 1080. Second, you want a professional motion picture film scanner or Datacine machine as opposed to a real-time to frame by frame machine. The real-time and frame by frame machine is nothing more than a modified projector and camcorder. If you are going to do this right, that is not the type of machine you wan to use to save your family history on video.

As Carol commented on her BBB review, "I chose the Pro HD scan. The end result far exceeded my expectations. Even though the film had not always been stored in ideal conditions, they did a wonderful job with the transfer and restoration. !"
