If you are wondering how to convert 8mm to DVD, we can help. We have been scanning 8mm film for 3 decades now. In addition, we have the full range of scanners to help you to decide how you want to convert your 8mm to DVD. Our processes range from a non-professional standard definition scan (SD process) to the best and highest 8mm film scan available in the world (Pro 2K process).

In order to turn 8mm into DVD, the film must first be digitally scanned. This is the most important part. The better the digital scanner, the closer the digital image will match the original 8mm film. So, the old saying you get what you pay for is certainly true here. This is why we offer different options to turn your 8mm into DVD. The higher the quality, the more expensive the machine and the more we have to charge. But, this gives you different options to choose from. If you can afford the best, do the Pro 2K process. If you can't, move down one process at a time until you get to a process you can afford. Alternatively, you can do part of your film now and part later as well.

Converting 8mm to DVD is not easy to convert at a high quality and that's why you'll find several companies at several different price points. It's the machine that will decide the out going quality. The better and more expensive machines will always give you better quality compared to cheaper machines.

At the lowest quality in the industry is Walmart, Costco and Walgreens. They still use a real-time process we stopped using a 10 years ago. Most mom an pop shops and camera shops use something similar. Next, there is an improvement on this process called a Frame by Frame process. This is our bottom of 4 processes and is called the SD process. Next we have our Pro SD process which is a professional film scanner. It doesn't use any projector parts and is a true film scanner. The real-time and frame by frame machines are not professional film scanners. Our Pro HD process was the first professional HD (1080p) scan for 8mm film in the market. But, we didn't stop there, we created the ultimate Pro 2K process. It is the first and only 2K scanner in the world for 8mm and Super 8 film. Labs doing documentaries that have 8mm or Super 8 film send it to use to get it scanned at 2K resolution.

Once the film is scanned, it is edited for color, blank parts, etc. Depending on the quality of the film and the scan, this can be easy to extremely hard. You have to go through the footage slowly to catch blank parts and will have to cut the video into clips to apply different filters. So, you may need to apply a color shifting filter, or take out frames that might be jumping, etc.

Once you are done editing you can then output the video to formats like DVD and BluRay. In addition to disk formats you can output to editing files like ProRes and HD-AVI.

In summary, before you convert your 8mm to DVD, make sure you look carefully at the scanner being used. It is the most important part and it will determine how good the DVD or other format is.
