Most burnable DVDs being used by companies today will last 5 to 10 years. We only use 25-year professional or 100-year archival DVDs. Most people think they don't need a 100-year DVD. You should think again. What if you film only lasted 25 years? The average age of the film we get in is 50 years old. You wouldn't be able to convert your super 8 film to DVD if it only lasted 25 years. The advantage of a 100-year disk is not that you will be able to play it in 100 years but that you will still be able to convert it at year 26, 27, 30 and so on. It just gives you more time to convert it.
If you are looking for the best Super 8 to DVD service, then you came to the right place. We use the world's best professional motion picture film scanners and Datacine machines for your Super 8 film to DVD conversion. These professional film scanners are roller based so they don't use the sprocket holes and have laser frame alignment to get 100% of the frame no matter how shrunk it is. We also use archival DVDs. Super 8 film was a great extension to Regular 8mm. Kodak made the frame slightly wider than a 8mm frame. The super 8 cameras were also generally better quality with better features. This means that in general Super 8 film will look better on DVD than Regular 8mm film. If you want to retain all the quality you want to consider getting your Super 8 put on DVD using a good quality professional film scanner like the one we use for our Pro HD process. If you are looking for the best quality in the world then consider our Pro 2K process. This process uses a professional 2K Datacine machine to achieve the best results possible.
In addition to the machine type and resolution, you also want to consider restoration. Super 8 film on average is 45 years old. By this time the colors have shifted blue (in most cases) and has gotten darker. In addition, all movie film has these tiny dots called film grain that cover up many of the details on your film. Video Conversion Experts offers industry leading restoration services including Color, Exposure correction, grain elimination and stabilization.
Most companies today are using a projector, or modified projector and camcorder to convert your Super 8 to DVD. Yes, you heard me right. A projector and camcorder. You could do this yourself. And you wouldn't be happy with the results. Look at the examples from Walgreens, Walmart, Sams Club or Costco. It looks like old VHS. Your film has at least 3 times the resolution of VHS. Getting your super 8 film copied to DVD by one of these companies is a true disgrace to your family.
Yes, it will cost more to do it right, but after all, these are family memories that can't be replaced. So, if you are looking for the best Super 8 film transfer to DVD, look no further than Video Conversion Experts.
